ZUBER, FL- As most residents of north central Florida know, the entire area
has been inundated with heavy rains for three days plus, resulting in flooding
in some areas. Ocala Speedway has also endured the precipitation, and the clay
is beyond saturation point after another round of torrential rain earlier on
Thursday.
Due to the extremely wet conditions, and due to the forecasts
calling for more rain and virtually no sunshine, Ocala Speedway owner Michael
Peters has decided to rain out races scheduled for Friday, May 22nd. The clay
is soaked and the infield is left with standing water in most areas. Even if
the sun were to shine all day on Friday, it would not leave enough time to dry
things out sufficiently to hold exciting or competitive races. No decision has
been made as to if and when the rained out divisions will make up the
races.
Racing will return to Ocala Speedway on May 29th as the Open Wheel
Modifieds return for what should be another exciting night of racing. Joining
the Modifieds will be the Hobby Stocks, Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks, Mini Stocks,
and the Gladiators.
And Ocala Speedway continues to prepare for the
most prestigious dirt late model race in Florida, the 14th Annual Powell
Memorial 75. As was the case in 2008, the United Dirt Late Model Challenge
Series will run the Powell Memorial as a points race and bring the best super
late model competitors in the southeast to Ocala Speedway. The Powell Memorial
will bring racers and fans from across the country to Ocala Speedway on Friday,
June 5th.
