A TALL TASK: TREY OSBORNE IS A USAC SPRINT CAR WINNER

By Jacob Dove

Wednesday night at Ocala Speedway saw 26 USAC Non-Winged Sprint Cars along with 28 Mod Lites for Winter Dirt Games XVII. Race fans packed the stands to see some of the best dirt racers in the country at Ocala’s unique-shaped track. Owner Bubba Clem always likes to experiment and make tweaks to the racetrack, giving drivers a special challenge. After the Scales Media’s Jacob Dove and Shaun Blight caught up with USAC drivers like Logan Seavey, Justin Grant, Gunnar Setser, and Kobe Simpson who all mentioned they noticed some differences when practicing on Sunday.

Going into the night, Logan Seavey and Jake Swanson found victory lane at Volusia Speedway Park. Once qualifying was complete at Ocala, Kyle Cummins sat on top of the leaderboard. After some exciting heat races, Briggs Danner, Kevin Thomas Jr., and C.J Leary would come across the line first. This put Columbus, Ohio’s Trey Osborne on the pole of the 30 lap feature. Once the feature began, Kobe Simpson unfortunately made contact that would send him barrel rolling down the back stretch. Luckily he was okay and walked away from the crash. The field got back going and Trey Osborne set sail. During lap traffic however Osborne and 2nd place runner Chase Stockton would make contact and keep going. With some late restarts, Osborne would continue to get out to the lead and hold on to win his first career USAC Sprint Car victory.

Trey Osborne’s win was a popular one with the crowd, given his nickname “Tall”, standing at 6 feet 8 inches. Not your standard height for a racecar driver but Osborne makes it work. The Indiana driver was very excited to capture his first victory against tough competition. Chase Stockton would end up runner up in 2nd place after a valiant effort to battle Osborne for the win. Logan Seavey rounded out the podium with a 3rd place effort. Seavey has been impressive having finished in the top 3 for the first 3 races of the 2026 USAC AMS Oil Non-Winged Sprint Cars season.

The night concluded with the 20 lap Mod Lite feature event. Drivers from around the country came down to race at Ocala Speedway to experience the fast pace and technical racing the track has to offer. Former IMCA champion Ronnie Choate from Cookeville, Tennessee would get out to the lead and never look back after starting on the pole. New Caney, Texas’s Corey Babbit would finish runner up in 2nd place and Greenwood, Delaware’s Brandon Dennis would finish 3rd after starting 6th. Thank you to Ocala Speedway and staff for a great night of racing as it’s always a pleasure to be apart of the exciting racing that takes place.
